Yowza!
Published by Jen Star on May 04, 2005 at 12:53 p.m.So, Veronica Mars last night. Wow. What a trip!
This is going to be the entry that confirms my TV Geek membership, so back off now if you don't want to see a true fangirl at work.
I always liked Teddy Dunn (Duncan), particularly in the episodes where he got to show his loony side. In episode three, "Meet John Smith," when Duncan and Veronica were having naughty dreams about each other, I thought, "Wow. Now that's some chemistry." Then, after Abel Koontz told us that Veronica may be Jake Kane's daughter (something I was sure was a conspiracy against Veronica until, well, last night), Duncan seemed to drop off the radar. For the last few episodes, I thought it was because the producers had discovered what a goldmine they were sitting on with Jason Dohring (Logan), and decided to give him the leading-man status for a while.
And then there was last night. Duncan screaming at Veronica that he knows they are brother and sister, but can't stop loving her was dazzling. Boy, I really felt it. And though I know in my heart of hearts that they are not, in fact, relatedand given Veronica's quick turnaround into making out with Logan in his dad's pool house, so does sheevery weird and not-so weird thing that Duncan has ever done just slotted into place. Trying to kill his father the week he and Veronica broke up? Check. Jumping off the risers at school after watching Veronica make out with Evil Troy? Check. Sleeping with his sister and then running away before she woke up? Well, at least he had Logan's GHB to blame on that one.
What else do I want to talk about? Oh yes! Veronica running off when she found the Echolls' video cameras! I spent some time last night trying to figure out why she'd forgive Logan for spiking Duncan's drink and helping the two engage in naughty incestand why she'd leave a party to slip off to yet another guestroom for some ill-advised drinking and frolicingonly to freak out over finding cameras in what was obviously not Logan's bedroom (note the curtains with Aaron's face all over them and Logan's secret key to the liquor cabinet). I think I figured it out, though: She wasn't running away from Logan, but realized that Lilly may have had something similar set up at home. If she had a spy pen for communicating with all her "lovahs," why wouldn't she have a camera in a grate somewhere in her room? It totally explains the seemingly pointless Weevil break-in story from two weeks ago, which set Lilly up as someone who likes to keep secrets. So my thought is that Veronica said goodbye to Logan, then high-tailed it out of there to figure out a way into Lilly's house (she could have just waited for the Kanes to show up at Logan's to calm down an emotionally drained Duncan). Then in comes Mamma, and out goes her evening of sleuthing.
And on a related note, bye-bye Gretchen and Meredith. And what the hell is with Lorelai all of a sudden wanting to sell her inn and becoming a jet-setter? Wasn't it just this season that she told her dad emphatically that she didn't want to sell something she worked so hard for? Way to add drama at the expense of character continuity, folks!
