Or, deep down inside,
everyone hates everyone

Saw Crash over the weekend. Pretty aggressive movie. Not being an American (or, perhaps more importantly, never having been to Los Angeles), I was a little taken aback at how vocal the bigots were in this movie. Like, it's one thing for Matt Dillon's character to be a prick; they'd done a good job convincing me of that from moment one. But for Don Cheadle's character to label his girlfriend as a Mexican just because she's Hispanic smacked of taking the easy way out with the story. I think there are a lot more people like Ryan Phillipe's characterpolite, and trying hard to keep an open mind about everyone, regardless of racethan there are people who jump to racial slander for no good reason. I'm not suggesting the world is void of prejudice and fear, just that people don't often shout slurs at one another instead of saying hello.
Perhaps that's just the Canadian in me talking. I sure hope not.
